A nippy left-arm bowler, Elvis Reifer had the unenviable task of filling in at Hampshire in 1984 for Malcolm Marshall, who was on the West Indian tour of England. Reifer had not then played a first-class match and, as Wisden put it, "although bowling well on occasions, he did not make the hoped-for impact"; his 49 wickets cost 35.91 each. On return, he failed to take a wicket in his first match for Barbados in January 1986, and was never selected again. Cricket ran strong in his family: his brothers Leslie and twin George played for Barbados, his nephew Floyd had six Tests for West Indies, two as captain; and his son Rayman represented the Combined Colleges and Campuses team in the 2011 West Indian first-class competition.
