slower ball angling into leg stump, swiped away to deep square leg, and that is that
Phoenix vs N S-Chargers, 11th Match at Birmingham, Women's Hundred, Aug 19 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
6.20pm It's a double-header tonight, in case you needed reminding. We've begun our coverage of the men's game between these two sides, so pop over there to continue your evening's thrills and spills. It's goodbye from me, Hemant and Chandan, though. We hope you've enjoyed our coverage.
Sophie Molineux is the Player of the Match. "It was a great game," she says. "They kept taking it to us, and credit to their batting order, they kept coming at us, and we did well to hold our nerve. I try not to think too much. Simple plans, I go back to that, and try to control my breathing and so forth. [Amy Jones and co] were awesome at the top, it sent a message to us that there's a platform there and we can try to kick on. We're in great spirits, it's a great group, I'm really loving it here."
6.12pm Phoenix win by five runs, and move to the top of the table with three wins in three games, and a better net run rate than the Southern Braves. Excellent all-round performance, with Amy Jones and Sophie Molineux shining brightest as they kept a spirited Superchargers side at bay. Molineux was particularly outstanding, conceding just two runs off her first 15 balls - no runs in her first two sets - and this while Alyssa Healy was threatening to win the match all by herself against the other bowlers.
full, angling into the stumps, and Gunn gets some power behind this hit too, but not enough to clear the boundary. Yorks long-on running in from the boundary and diving forward
finds the gap between deep backward square leg and deep midwicket. Another full-toss angling into leg stump, and Gunn swipes it away to bring it down to 12 off two balls
full-toss angling into leg stump, whipped away to the left of deep square leg
Jenny Gunn is the new batter.
and that could be that. The big wicket. Length ball angling into the stumps, whipped in the air, timed fairly well, but picks out Perry, running smartly to her left at deep midwicket
18 to get off the final over. Elwis to bowl.
and now the missed stumping. Steps out, and swipes across the line of the quicker one. Jones can't react quickly enough behind the stumps. Terrific end to a terrific bowling display from Molineux
dropped. Difficult catch for extra-cover moving to her left, Elwiss. Steps out, steps leg-side to try and loft inside-out, but can't quite get enough elevation. Leaps to her left with arms outstretched, and can't quite grab on
quickish length ball outside off, reverse-paddled towards short third
In walks Davidson-Richards.
and Molineux has her revenge. Attacks the stumps with a flat length ball, and Wolvaardt can't get enough power behind her slog-sweep. Perry completes the job, running in from the boundary at deep midwicket
but she bowls a full-toss now, angling into off stump, and Wolvaardt finds her timing finally. Clears her front leg and wallops this over the boundary to the right of long-on
Ten balls to go, and five of them will be bowled now by Sophie Molineux. A crucial, crucial set. She's only conceded two runs off her first 15.
steps out, swipes the length ball to the right of long-on, and hurries back for a risky second run. Makes it in the end
down the track again, trying to make room, and Wong follows her with a length ball. Swipes across it, and there's an appeal for stumping as Armitage swings herself round in the attempt to hit the ball. Ends up dragging herself outside the crease, and it looks like Jones has taken the bails off before she can slide back in. Or has she? It looks really close, maybe a tiny bit of her foot is behind the line. Not out is the third umpire's decision.
Steps out, looking to hit inside-out, and edges the full-toss thickly, hits Jones' right boot. May have run away for four otherwise. Hard job to do, standing up to the seamer
another loopy slower ball, on off stump. Clears her front leg and swipes to long-on. The batter is having to manufacture all the power herself, with Wong giving them nothing to work with
slower ball, quite full on middle stump, flat-batted off the front foot to long-on
Wong. Superchargers need 31 off 15.
steps out again, not quite to the pitch of this one pitching outside off, swipes it down to long-on
steps out again and Gordon slows it down outside off. Lofts it to the left of long-off, and Devine overruns the ball, as the ball lands and turns to her right to dribble away past the rope
full outside off, brings out the reverse-paddle to pick up a single to short third
steps out, Gordon shifts her line wider, drives in the air, on the bounce to long-off
steps out, gets close to the pitch of this off-stumpish ball, and chips it over the bowler and down to long-off
The required rate is nearly two a ball. Armitage is striking it well, but Wolvaardt is struggling for timing. Here's Gordon.
