Very full outside off, digs it out to long-on. A comprehensive 44-run win for South Africa.
SA Women vs WI Women, 2nd Match at East London, SA Tri-Series, Jan 21 2023 - Match Result
6:05pm West Indies have now lost each of their last ten T20Is, including one via Super Over against New Zealand. And they have a tougher opponent next in India, whom they play on Monday night. Hope you join us then. On behalf of Vairavan and Srinidhi, it's goodbye and take care!
Eric H: "How can you have your best player on the bench and expect to win? Who is better than Stafanie Taylor in the West Indies team? " Not sure if she is 100% fit yet.
6pm Hayley Matthews: "We would have hoped to get off to a better start. The way C
Connell bowled through the innings was very good to watch. We want to get used to the conditions and see what the wickets are going to be like. [Batting] We need more runs at the top and if we could get one or two batters stick in for long, that will help."
Sune Luus "All aspects of the game came together today. We spoke about what we needed to improve after the first game. Focused on the basics and got it right today. [Crowd] Awesome to get a crowd here and sets us up for World Cup. Bosch, Ayabonga, Jafta are from East London. We would have finished a bit more with the bat at the death overs. We could have knocked more balls in the gaps instead of dots and bat better."
Player of the match, Masabata Klaas: "Thanks to our supporters for turning up. As bowlers we always want to get better and I asked myself to keep going after two overs. I was enjoying myself. When the team-mates and management support, it is a nice feeling. We played a game here so we knew what areas to hit."
5:54pm A Klaas act ensured that West Indies' first outing in the tri-series ended up in a disappointment. Chasing 142, they were off to a decent start but Klaas got in the game and never let the opponents get away. Batting was always their weaker suit and a brittle middle order meant that the chase was derailed once Matthews and Cooper were separated. South Africa's spinners also managed to keep a stronghold on the Windies batters. They managed to turnaround quickly after their loss against India.
Earlier, it was Kapp's half-century and her 63-run stand with Luus that helped South Africa cross the 140-run mark. On a slow surface, they never let West Indies get away in the face of some disciplined bowling.
Low full toss on the pads, nudged through backward square leg for a brace.
Spears it full on leg, she misses the flick and it strikes her front leg. Sliding down for sure.
Full and outside off, driven to cover.
Very full on middle and leg, whipped away through square leg.
Very full on the pads, she misses the flick and it rolls to the on side off her pads.
Fine performance from Klaas tonight - a real Klaas act.
No she can't! Bangs it short and angles it in, a helmet-less Selman manages to pull it to fine leg.
Final ball of her spell. Can she get a five-for?
Very full on leg, flicks it through wide mid-on.
Full on middle and leg, she looks to flick it away but gets an inside edge onto her front pad.
Ramharack out to bat. Bowled just the sole over.
Yorker on point! You-miss-I-hit kind of stuff. She fires it on off and middle, Fletcher clears her front leg and misses her swipe.
Bowls it well down leg again, she leaves it alone.
Full and straight on off and middle, she flicks it through square leg.
I don't like this now. Selman is set to face a fast bowler MINUS a helmet on.
Fuller on off, turned through midwicket.
Sprays it full down leg, easy leave for the batter.
Shakera Selman walks out without a helmet on. It will be Klaas to bowl out now.
Cleaned her up! Spears it full and straight in line of the stumps, Connell misses her heave and sees her off stump pegged back.
Full and on the pads again, she misses the flick and it goes off her pads to the off side. They scamper throughf or a run and Connell makes it, courtesy a weak throw to the keeper.
Once again goes for the yorker, Fletcher charges down but misses and gets hit full on the pads.
Yorker on leg, manages to dig it out at the last moment.
Full and outside off, she makes room and misses the slash.
Very full outside off, Fletcher gets across to swipe it but it lands on her toes.
Khaka now.
