A record-breaking 369-run partnership between Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne propelled Sri Lanka A to 485 for 3 at the close of the third day of their four-day game against South Africa A, giving them a lead of 140. Karunaratne was eventually bowled by Quinton Friend for 184 while Chandimal, having made his maiden first-class double hundred, fell just before the end of play for 244, bowled by Thandi Tshabalala.
The pair had already put on 112 when the day started, and like the energiser bunny, they just kept going and going and going. Chandimal was the more aggressive of the two, bashing four sixes in addition to his 20 fours. Karunaratne, who finished one run short of his career high, hit 22 fours.
Kaushal Silva was unbeaten on 35 at stumps, with Kosala Kulasekara keeping him company on 2. South Africa's bowlers toiled all day with little reward, especially Tshabalala, who sent down 37 overs and conceded 137 runs for Chandimal's solitary scalp. Meanwhile Friend finished the day with 1 for 99 off his 21 overs.
