Australian Test squad members Mitchell Marsh and Jhye Richardson played leading roles for Western Australia as the Warriors rolled New South Wales for 204 on a low-scoring day one of the Sheffield Shield match at the WACA ground in Perth.
Marsh claimed four wickets and Richardson was exceptionally parsimonious as WA coaxed the Blues batsmen into repeated errors after NSW captain Peter Nevill won the toss and chose to bat.
Nick Larkin and Daniel Hughes had given the Blues a decent start, before Marsh began to work his way through the batting order. Only Hughes and Ed Cowan were able to get solidly established at the crease, in an innings characterised by wasted starts in the wake of the Big Bash League.
Having dismissed the NSW line-up for barely 200, the Warriors lost a pair of their own early wickets in reply. Seamer Trent Copeland took the wickets of Will Bosisto and the nightwatchman Matthew Kelly before stumps. Cameron Bancroft will have a chance to eat into the NSW total on day two.
