Andrew McDonald guided South Australia in a strong response to Queensland's lofty first innings on day two of the Sheffield Shield match at the Adelaide Oval.
A stand of 254 between Nick Stevens and Chris Hartley was the major factor in the Bulls' 8 for 443 declared, a tally that seemed unlikely when Chadd Sayers jagged a hat-trick on the first morning.
But McDonald and Mark Cosgrove, playing his first Shield match for SA since returning home from Queensland, enjoyed a fruitful opening union of 126 to set down a platform for the Redbacks. McDonald fell short of a hundred, but Callum Ferguson and Tom Cooper both made starts and will hope for more on day three.
