Scorecard
New Zealand A's batsmen put up a solid performance on the opening day of their three-day match against Queensland at the WEP Harris Oval in Brisbane but the game was ruined after rain washed out the second and third days without a ball being bowled.
New Zealand's innings was built around half-centuries from Test batsmen Peter Fulton and James Marshall, and the wicketkeeper Reece Young. They finished the first day on 304 for 6 but never got the opportunity to resume because of poor weather.
The innings, however, got off to a poor start with openers Aaron Redmond and Bradley-John Watling falling within the space of a run after their opening stand of 23. Fast bowler Ben Cutting, who has played only one first-class match, had both batsmen caught behind by Chris Hartley.
New Zealand were 24 for 2 when Fulton and Marshall began their 142-run partnership. Marshall scored 59 off 138 balls before he was trapped lbw by medium-pacer Grant Sullivan. Legspinner Daniel Doran struck another quick blow by dismissing Greg Hay for 3 and New Zealand were beginning to slip when Fulton fell for 83 with the score on 191 for 5.
Young steadied the innings with an unbeaten 62 and added 34 with Neil Broom and an unbroken 79 for the seventh wicket with Nathan McCullum.
