Knights vs Leinster, 7th Match at Bready, , Aug 16 2019 - Ball by Ball Commentary

ABANDONED
7th Match, Bready, August 16, 2019, Cricket Ireland Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Trophy

Match abandoned without a ball bowled

Good Morning and Welcome to Bready Cricket club for the 2nd Test Triangle InterPro T20. Over the next three days we are going to be seeing Cricketers from this part of Europe Thrashing the ball to all parts of the ground, so hopefully you'll be able to follow along to my commentary for the all six of these exciting games

This Morning we are due to kick the festival off with the Northern Knights vs the Leinster Lightning. With the Knights leading the table by a massive 7 points after winning all three games in the first t20 festival at Pembroke, Gary Wilson I'm sure will be wanting to carry on winning and claim the title for the Knights before they get to the final day.

The Lightning will be missing Kevin O'Brien and the squad does have a very youthful look to it. Matt Ford, the son of Ireland coach Graham Ford keeps his place in the squad, with Michael Lewis getting a call up for the first time. With the Lightning being defending champions, they will be well aware of how important it is to beat the Knights today

With the EuroT20 Slam being kicked into the long grass, these games are one of the last opportunities for the players to stake a claim for a place in the Ireland T20 squad for the world cup qualifiers that are going to be held in October. Although just like the rest of the Summer, it looks like the weather is going to interrupt things, there has been a fair bit of rain overnight. The covers are still on and the ground is a little soft out there.

So, its going to be a delayed start, there is a strong breeze so hopefully that will help to shift these clouds and get some sun out to help dry out the ground. I'll let you know when I get any update.

11:30am Well at this point I should be bringing you the opening over, although even though I can't bring you any cricketing action, I can bring you some news. We have blue skies over the ground and the covers are starting to be removed. Obviously we are all hoping that the ground can dry quickly enough to get the morning match in. We reckon that to get a 5 over game in, we will need to get started by just after 2pm.

12:15pm The umpires have been out and had a look around the ground. They have had a chat with the Captains and there is no chance of the ground being able to dry out before the cut off time. So the captains have shook hands and will have to settle for two points each.

So now we have a three hour wait and hopefully the ground will dry out quickly enough for the second game of the day.
