11.27 pm The respect for Dhoni is immense. Pollard, Bumrah and a number of others from the Mumbai Indians squad come up to shake the legend's hand after his latest Houdini act at the death.

Tinura: "You can write off anyone in the world. But NEVER...EVERrr..write off legendary DHONI...Don't anyone DARE...!"

SPras: "The legend of Dhoni lives on.. goosebumps!!"

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma: "In the end it was a great fight from us. We were right in the game. After batting not so well, I thought the bowlers kept us in the game all through. But in the end, we all know how calming MS Dhoni can be and he took them home. It's hard to put a finger on that [top order problems]. If you lose three or a couple of wickets up front, it's always going to be tough. You're always playing that catching [up] game. But in the end we got to a very reasonable target where we thought with the ball we could put them under pressure. I thought till the last over, we had them under pressure. But in the end, MS and Pretorius, they were quite calm and got them home. We want to back ourselves with the ball. Whatever we have in front of us, we back ourselves to defend it. The pitch was good. We could have got more runs there, but as I said we lost a few wickets up front and it was always going to be hard after that to play freely."

CSK's Dwaine Pretorius: [On batting with MSD] "Unbelievable. He's the master at finishing off games and he did it again tonight. [On his boundaries off Bumrah] I wanted to go for that scoop shot in the first over against Bumrah, but [Dhoni] said, 'Wait, wait, wait'. I waited and the next over I said, 'Now I'm going.' And he said to go for it. I went for it. We knew we need five boundaries, no dots and we could get over the line tonight. I'm working hard and just glad I could contribute to a win to the team today and hopefully we can win a few more. "

CSK captain Jadeja: "Actually we were very tense, the way the game was going, but at some stage we knew that the great finisher of the game was there and if he played to the last ball, he can definitely finish the match. He showed the world that he's still here and he can finish the game. [On Rayudu and Bravo] We have plenty of experience in our team so they know when to perform and what to do. So if we're not winning the game, still we look to be calm and relax. I don't take fielding for granted and still work on it. We need to do some work on our fielding and take catches because we can't keep dropping catches in every game."

Player of the Match is Mukesh Choudhary. [Translation into English] "Mine has been a different journey, I never thought I'd play cricket. I was at a boarding school in Pune and there I used to play all sports in the one hour of sports period everyday. In grade 11 and 12 I started losing interest in studies so picked up cricket and that worked out. I'm not just a powerplay bowler but have to swing it while bowling in that period. (On Kishan's dismissal) I've been working on my wrist position everyday with the coaches for my swing, it's been about a month now. I had been trying from the first game and it finally showed. There's no pressure, all the seniors and stars help me in the dressing room and ask me to play freely."

That'll do it for our live coverage of tonight's last-ball thriller. Stay tuned for post-match coverage on the site. On behalf of my commentary partners Sidharth Monga and the scoring team, I'm Peter Della Penna. Come back tomorrow for more IPL action. Until then, take care! I'll sign off with this stats gem from one of our stats men, Sampath Bandarupalli.

"Most target runs chased in the last four balls in IPL:

17 - GT vs PBKS, 2022 (Tewatia and Miller)

16 - RCB vs PWI, 2012 (ABD and S Tiwary)

16 - RPS vs KXIP, 2016 (MS Dhoni)

16 - CSK vs MI, 2022 (MS Dhoni)"

Unadkat to Dhoni, FOUR runs

Dhoni does it! Unadkat goes for yorker on leg stump, it was very well directed but Dhoni was just too good to play an even better shot whipping this past short fine leg and skids to the rope for the winning runs! Dhoni raises his bat casually to acknowledge his bench and the pro-CSK roars in some yellow-clad sections of the crowd, but it's mostly silence at the DY Patil for Mumbai as Rohit again pulls his cap over his face in frustration.

Khalid : "Bottom of the table or what El Classico is El Classico!"

Four off the final ball for the win needed by CSK.

Unadkat to Dhoni, FOUR runs

slower bouncer goes wrong now! Rohit pulls his cap over his eyes! Unadkat bangs this in on leg stump at 120 kph, Dhoni shuffles well across and flicks a pull very deftly over fine leg, one bounce over the rope.

Samrat Ahuja: "Surely not again Dhoni, not again!!"

Unadkat to Dhoni, SIX runs

in the slot on fifth stump and over the ropes at long-off! Unadkat gets the length terribly wrong at 127 kph with a cross seam delivery, Dhoni shows no mercy punishing him down the ground.

Dhoni on strike with 16 off 4 balls to win.

Unadkat to Pretorius, OUT

Pretorius shuffles way across his stumps and misses flicking across the line to a yorker. Looks stone dead live but umpire Oxenford gives it not out and they scamper a leg bye. Rohit calls for DRS immediately. Live, it looked like the ball pitched in line with leg stump. That was the only doubt. If it was, he's a gonner. Ball-tracking indeed shows the ball pitched in line. Oxenford has to overturn his decision to out! Pretorius was so far across his stumps, you could see leg stump showing live, so it was surprising that it was given not out on field.

Vikas: "Unadkat is about to get what Axar received from Dhoni a few years ago. Poor him!"

Bumrah to Pretorius, 1 run

yorker on the money this time on off stump at 141 kph, jammed down the ground to long-on for one. Dhoni wanted two to get the strike for the final over but Pollard's relay was too sharp to have any chance.

Rehan: "Perhaps the biggest mistake they made was not bidding for Faf."

Bumrah to Pretorius, FOUR runs

clever from Pretorius! But also very poor from Bumrah. Attempted yorker at 138 kph on sixth stump, but it's a knee high full toss and Pretorius picks the right ball to shuffle across and scoop this over fine leg to the rope.

Rohith: "Jadeja has so much on the table already with the Job of spin, finishing and fielding. Better give it to someone who has less no. of roles, but the question for CSK is whom? They haven't prepared for future without Dhoni and left their legend batter in Raina. Rest of the options are either too young or too old for the franchise."

Bumrah to Pretorius, FOUR runs

overpitched on off searching for the yorker, Pretorius makes Bumrah pay with a sizzling drive past Bumrah's legs and beats the long-off fielder Sams, whose effort was quite weak diving over the top of the ball. Should've been two at worst.

Siddharth: "Jadeja is an excellent allrounder. May be one of the best in the world. But he is no captain material, doesn't matter if you have been around for 15 years. IMO, CSK wasted a chance with not bidding for Raina"

18.1
Bumrah to Pretorius, no run

missed runout! Shin high full toss on fifth stump, Pretorius drills this straight to Rohit. Pretorius ran on contact but Dhoni stays put seeing the shot pick out Rohit on the ring. A throw to the striker's end is wide with Pretorius a few yards short.

dhee: "Adding to the conversation, I feel Jadeja is being more influenced by Dhoni and his coaching staff to place fieldings like what dhoni used to do and bowling changes. They might be successful sometimes but its not good moving forward for jadeja's game he has to be on his own terms and ideas as a captain."

full and wide at 127 kph, drills this drive through extra cover for a very long single. Pretorius turned back and wanted two but Dhoni didn't want to take on the relay arm of SKY and turns Pretorius back.

Kevin: "Not every player has those leadership qualities. Sachin tendulkar was never a good captain."

Dhoni turning back the clock! Length ball angled across seventh stump, Dhoni reaches out to drive through cover and slashes this high over short third man backspinning away to the rope.

Arunabh: "That's the point PDP. Perhaps Jadeja is not captaincy material. Not every good player can be a good captain. The captaincy needs to be handled by someone else in CSK."

Raj: "IPL franchises are destroying the confidence of Indian cricketers by thrusting them into captaincy roles when they are clearly not capable and ready". If Jadeja isn't ready now, when will he be ready? He's been on the scene for 15 years now.
