The six-match winning streak finally ends! And it's the captain Yuvraj Singh who sets a brilliant example! Yeligati drives but mistimes it towards mid-off, they for for the single anyway, Yeligati knows he's struggling and Yuvraj decides to make a dash for the stumps instead of attempting a direct hit, he flings himself at the stumps and knocks all three of them down with Yeligati well short of his ground. The third umpire is called for but Punjab know they've done it, Yuvraj is in a frenzy
Kings XI vs MI, 45th match at Mumbai, IPL, May 21 2008 - Match Result
This would go down as one of the classic chokes in Twenty20 history. Mumbai suddenly panicked when they lost Abhishek Nayar and Tendulkar in quick succession. The running and calling was totally messed up, especially in the final over when there were three run-outs. Punjab will have to commended for keeping their nerve in the final moments. Surely, Yuvraj would have played a big part in pushing everybody to give their best. It was only fitting he finished it off in style with an athletic run out to rival Jonty Rhodes.
Here's an observation from Mahesh N: "Tendulkar should hand Pollock the captaincy and concentrate on his batting. The decision to have Nehra bowl the final over instead of Pollock cost the match."
Pollock could well have been unfit for the last over. I guess the reasons will be revealed shortly. Stay with us for the post-match presentation.
Sreesanth gets the purple cap for being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He's tied with RP Singh on 15 wickets but edges ahead on economy rate.
Tendulkar: "We got so close and congratulations to my team. Would like to thank the crowd. I needed to be there till the end, till the 15th over. I always felt it would be one run or one wicket which would change things. But we lost by one run.
Yuvraj: "Sachin's wicket changed the game for us. Marsh and Pomersbach played brilliantly. I want to tell the crowd that the crowd support was too one sided towards Mumbai. Let me remind them that some of the Punjab players also play for India." He's clearly unhappy.
Shaun Marsh is the Man of the Match. He said the IPL was a great experience.
Strong words from Yuvraj there. Details of what really happened should emerge later.
Part 2 of the double header should get underway soon in Chennai. Rain has delayed the start by 15 minutes. It's Chennai Super Kings v Bangalore Royal Challengers. Bangalore will bat first. Thanks for your company. Cheers!
makes room and chops it down towards the bowler, they go for the run and VRV makes an unnecessary attempt at the non strikers end, the throw is backed up at mid-on and they take a second run
Yeligati walks in. 4 needed off 2
the drama continues! He drives a full delivery through the covers, Srivastava makes a sliding save behind point, they attempt a third run and Nehra is just short of his ground as Kaul whips off the bails
makes room and misses, they steal a bye
And here's another twist! He creams this along the turf to deep extra cover, Srivastava picks it upo and hurls it back to the keeper as they attempt a second run, Kaul whips off the bails and Chitnis is short of hos ground
Dropped: The ball is full outside off, he scoops it high over extra cover, Srivastava is struggling to judge that and he spills the catch while falling backwards
off all times VRV has to bowl a waist high full toss! Chitnis makes room and scoops it high over third man
So they need 19 off the last over. The mood in that dugout was slightly different about 15 minutes back. A few quick wickets and boom. It's not over yet for Mumbai. VRV bowls the final over
he dishes it out full and wide outside off, he makes room and slices it hard down to third man
Fernando walks in
this task is getting tougher and tougher for Mumbai! Sreesant gets away with a full toss outside off, Shah slogs across the line and VRV at deep midwicket runs backwards and pulls off a neat catch
he bowls the full delivery which swings in, he pullde over midwicket but can't find the ropes
steps down the track and plays a chipped shot just wide of Jayawardene at midwicket
slightly short of a length and he cuts it to third man
hits a good length outside off and he gets off the mark with a slice just wide of sweeper cover
There's further trouble for Mumbai as Uthappa steps down the track and tries to launch him downtown, he hits it down Hopes' throat at long-on
flighted on middle and leg, he sweeps to midwicket
he reverse sweeps to gully
glided to fine leg
moves across hi stumps and paddles it down to fine leg
Pinal Shah walks in
Now this is getting really interesting! Yuvraj slides it down the legside, Pollock shapes to paddle it fine but he gets a thick leading edge which lobs to Chawla ar short third man
Here's pollock
Do we have a game here? Uthappa rocks back and softly tucks it towards midwicket, they set off for the run but Tendulkar is sent back after Pathan runs forward and gathers the ball quickly, he takes aim and strikes the stumps down with Tendulkar yards outside his crease
