what a way to finish! Yusuf has done it in style, chips it way over square leg for a big six, he's turned this match around in a trice and stands at the non-striker's end and flexes his muscles at his team-mates. They've plucked the chestnuts out of the fire here. In the semi-finals for sure now, Rajasthan. And they truly deserve to be the first team to do so.
KKR vs RR, 44th match at Kolkata, IPL, May 20 2008 - Ball by Ball Commentary
RR won by 6 wickets (with 21 balls remaining)
Kolkata appeared to have the upper hand when Ganguly castled Watson but a Nor'wester called Yusuf struck at Eden after that. He rode his luck and came up with a priceless 18-ball 48. Kaif supported him and they cantered home in the end, ensuring their place in the last four.
Kolkata are still not totally out but there hopes of entering the semi-finals have slimmed considerably. The crowd backed them throughout but were silenced by some fantastic hitting at the end.
Sourav Ganguly: "We haven't played well right throughout. We had stops and starts and today the better side won. We were 20 runs short. We didn't bowl well as a group but Yusuf played well. A wicket at that stage would have helped but he took it away."
Shane Warne: "We got a bit of momentum going and we showed a lot of character today. Kaifee showed what a class player he is, we wanted to push him up the order. Yusuf is having such a fantastic tournament. We wanted to change the bowlers around in the first six overs, didn't want them to settle down and I think that made the difference."
Man-of-the-Match Yusuf Pathan: "I felt great that this was a chance to take the team out of trouble. I wanted to win the match from the pressure situation. I want to play my natural game and hit the ball clean."
So that's it from here. Hope you enjoyed our coverage and join us for more tomorrow. From Siddhartha Vaidyanathan and Raju, goodnight and good luck.
ripper, round the wicket and short again, he stands and pulls with serious power, steaming through midwicket for four, what a tournament he's having
another one, short again and down leg, Gul is probably trying too hard to bounce him here, Yusuf waits and watches
short and wide outside leg, Yusuf doesn't need to touch that (though he tries to pull), wide called
backs away and inside out loft over extra cover for four, Yusuf can't do anything wrong tonight, bounces at extra cover and goes for four
Gul back but it may not make any difference
rocks back and pushes through covers, and they've scampered two again, how can Kolkata allow that, the fielder is slow and the throw isn't too straight, Kaif is speeding as if it's his last game, Rajasthan are taking the mickey out of Kolkata here, Eden has been silenced
short one this time, he comes down the track but can only pat it tamely to point
attempted yorker turns into a yorker, Yusuf pushes that to mid-off and takes off but Debabrata doesn't even take a shot at the stumps, Ishant is furious, Kolkata's fielding has fallen to pieces here
short of a length, angling in from off to middle, flicked away off his hips for a single
shimmies down the track and lofts to extra cover, it falls short of the fielder and they hurry through for a couple
tapped to point
Ishant back now but the door might have just been bolted. Kolkata need wickets and now
jumps down the track again, slapped away down the ground but the long-on is back now, retains strike
pulls away a short one to midwicket, not that well timed but he picks up two, this is a walk in the park now
short of a length, beaten this time, tries to angle it down to third man but misses it
Kaif on a roll now, charges out and that's driven hard down the ground for another, the field is in and he's making most of it, hat-trick of fours, it's all too easy now
down the track again, smashed a full one past point for another four, he's in a hurry now, Kaif is turning it on now
down the track and he's squeezed that through covers for four, it was uppish but the short extra cover couldn't latch on to it despite the dive, the mid-off is in and that's running away
another missed chance, Kolkata aren't fielding anywhere near their best here, tapped to point and Butt misses another direct hit, Kaif would have been out of the crease again, these two batsmen are being reckless with their running and Kolkata are not capitalising
127.2kph, full and straight, pushed back to the bowler
he's tired after all those twos, drives half-heartedly to midwicket for a single
