Cricket Australia XI 469 for 8 (Sangha 72, Lehmann 150, Edwards 142*, Overton 3-86) trail England Lions 613 for 8 declared by 144 runs
An injury-depleted England Lions attack was made to toil in their tour match against a Cricket Australia XI in Hobart, as hundreds for Jake Lehmann and Jack Edwards took the hosts towards a draw heading into the game's final day.
Missing two of their four frontline seamers in Lewis Gregory and Richard Gleeson through injury, the Lions spent the full day in the field. Craig Overton struck early to remove Jason Sangha and Lachlan Pfeffer, but Lehmann and Edwards added 181 for the fifth wicket in 51.2 overs before Keaton Jennings' medium pace accounted for the former.
Edwards continued to plough on with Max Bryant for support, and despite Dan Lawrence's two wickets in two balls shortly before the close, the game seemed to be heading towards a draw. Dom Bess went wicketless, though maintained an impressive economy rate of 2.43.
The exact nature of Gregory and Gleeson's injuries is unconfirmed. An ECB media release said: "Gregory and Gleeson will remain unavailable for the final day and will have their injuries monitored in the coming days."
Meanwhile, the Sheffield Shield's form batsman Nic Maddinson has been added to the Australia A squad to play the Lions in a day/night game under the MCG floodlights starting on Saturday, replacing Will Pucovski after his concussion.
