What a way to end this game! That was absolutely stunning on the ropes! This was a length ball and Connolly looks to pull it. He flat bats it high to long-on where James Bazley on the rope leaps up catches it, realises he's about to go over the ropes, pops it back up, steps outside the ropes, hops up palms the ball up in the air, then sets foot inside the ropes and completes the catch. He briefly sets his heal on the rope to steady himself but crucially steps back off before touching the ball. They check the replays to confirm and it's good! The Strikers win by 50 runs! Some boos ring out, as the crowd is not happy but what an effort by the Strikers!
Strikers vs Scorchers, Knockout at Perth, BBL 2023, Jan 20 2024 - Match Result
On that note it's a wrap from us. What a game we've had today, and we'll have more action on Monday when the Striker's take on the Heat in Carrara on Monday. But there's plenty of cricket to keep you busy until then, with the Under-19 World Cup, BPL, ILT20 and SA20 all taking place. So be sure to catch our coverage of that, but for now, on behalf of Vairavan and the rest of the team, this is Madushka signing out!
Thamizhachi : "It would take an exceptional display from Heat to stop a surging Strikers ! "
Machakaari: "Spinners dominating at Perth : Welcome to the future !"
David: "What's even more amazing about this (almost certain) victory is that the Strikers have done it with 13 overs of spin (after this one) and only 4 overs of seam so far! At Perth!!"
Abdul Samad: "What on pEARTH just happened?"
Lloyd Pope is the Player of the Match
7:30pm So the Adelaide Strikers have not only won this game, but they've absolutely crushed it as they overcome the Perth Scorchers at the Optus - only Perth's second loss in 19 games at the venue. But this game certainly didn't look like it was heading this way for large parts. First when the Strikers had slumped to 48 for 4 in the 10th over, and then when Sam Fanning had helped the Scorchers race to 38 for the opening wicket. But both times the Strikers fought back, with the bat Jack Weatherald kept them in it, before Ben Manenti and Henry Thornton took them to a competitive total. And then with the ball the spinners just throttled the chase. Lloyd Pope picked up figures of 4 for 24, while Cameron Boyce had 3 for 20.
Connolly goes bang! Comes down the track, this was full and wide and Connolly just lifts this fantastically over extra cover
Charlie: "Pope going scorched earth!"
Pope has a four! And it's the googly again! This was even better than the last! Good length on off, elicits the drive and just rips through bat and pad. The Scorchers are almost completely cooked here!
full on off, driven straight to short extra
Pope with an absolutely glorious googly! This was full on off, but quicker too. It pitches, grips and goes right through bat and pad as Tye fails to pick it. He looks to drive hard but plays all around it!
short and wide, flat batted down to long-off
quicker on the pads, looks to work it onside but strikes the front pad
Connolly is not giving up! Clobbers this over long-on! This was tossed up on off, and Connolly gets right under this
Samin: "Both matches the team batting first had one dominant period, but fell away, setting par scores. Both matches the team batting second starts off well, and falls hard."
full and straight, big swing but inside edges it towards backward square leg for one
Edged for four! Fired in outside off, slashes at this and gets a nick on it that takes it fine past the keeper
looks to slog sweep, but is hit on the front pad as this is darted down leg
over the wicket
Lofted over mid-off! Full on off, and Tye swings right through the line and goes up and over
looks to hit the same gap again, but this time only finds wide mid-off
inside out through extra cover! Makes room, and despite being followed, he manages to slap this in the gap
David: "A Sixers/Strikers final! Who'd have thought!! (The Heat are nothing without their internationals ...)"
Oh nearly another one! Short ball, looks to hook it and just chips a top edge in front of cover, who comes haring in but just falls short on the dive. Top effort
Now Tye looks to cut it behind square but this was a little too close. Play and a miss
Swing and a miss! This was a back of a length and Tye looks to pull it over mid-on. Misses
Manoj: "Am I dreaming or really Strikers going to win this? "
Chipped straight to mid-off! This was again pace-off and Agar is early on the drive, ends up chipping a simple catch to the man in the ring. The Scorchers are being extinguished here
length, 132kph, on the stumps. Defended
