caught well by Cummins running back from mid off! Slower ball angled into leg, Siraj moves outside leg and lofts inside edge over mid off, Cummins runs back with the flight and takes an excellent catch to finish the game
India vs Australia, 3rd ODI at Rajkot, IND v AUS, Sep 27 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That wraps up the final ODI series before the World Cup begins. India win another trophy 2-1. They were far too good for Australia in the first two matches but Australia brought some experience back in game three and took out the dead rubber tonight. The final World Cup squads are announced tomorrow. We will have all the news on ESPNCricinfo. Thanks for your company tonight. On behalf of the team it's goodbye from Rajkot.
9.49pm Presentation
Shubman Gill was named player of the series.
Rohit Sharma: "I'm pretty happy [with my own form]. Of course I'd like to go all the way along but as long as I'm hitting like that I'm happy. The last 7-8 ODIs we've played really well in different conditions. We were challenged at different times and we took that challenge really well. Unfortunately not the result we wanted today but I'm not going to look too much into this game. We've been playing really well. When we talk about the 15-man squad we are very clear on what we want and who the guys are that will do the job for us. We're not confused. We know exactly where we are heading."
Player of the match is Glenn Maxwell: "It's been a lot of hard work. The South Africa tour was a little bit of a setback. But it probably sped things up as well. I was able to get home and get an injection and get into my rehab. I feel like I'm in a decent place. I feel fresh. I feel like I've come into this World Cup nice and fresh and I'm excited to hit the ground running."
Pat Cummins: "Great first hit out for Starc and Maxwell. They both haven't played a lot over the last couple of months. Maxy four-for and Starcy looked like he was in great rhythm so I couldn't be happier. [Marsh opening in the World Cup] Potentially. Trav Head won't be ready for the start of the tournament. The way Marsh and Warner started today looks like a pretty dangerous combination. They look pretty good. [Injuries] Head and Agar are the obvious ones. Agar is back home with a calf. We'll sit down and work it out."
9.35pm Australia break their five match losing streak and win by 66 runs. A very polished display by Australia. They learned from India's bowling innings and went to the slower balls earlier in the innings. Glenn Maxwell was outstanding on return with a career-best 4 for 40. India were probably a batter or two light given Ishan Kishan was unavailable. But it is not a result either side will stew on for long. It was used as a World Cup warm-up. The final squads get announced tomorrow.
Marnus Labuschagne: "It was nice to contribute. I came in at a different time to what I have been. It was nice to navigate that scenario at the back end and get a really good total on the board. It felt like a game where the front end was the nicest time to bat. The back end the ball starting spinning a bit more and sitting in the wicket. I thought the boys did well at the back end. We've lost the series, India were too good in the first two games but it was nice to see all the big guns back today and it was nice to see the team gel."
Seetharaman : "Why snicko was not used by Third Umpire in Jadeja's replay?" Because the vision showed he missed it by a long way
big swing and a miss trying to launch a slower ball outside off
fuller length, wide of off, he tried to launch straight and got it off the toe to point
good length, angled into the thigh guard, he misses out trying to work behind square
flighted leg break, pitching on off, he defends on the front foot
good length topspinner, he reaches forward to smother it
tossed up on off, he leans out to defend
Slip in
given lbw! Jadeja reviews straightaway Looks pretty adjacent though. Jadeja stepped well outside off, to try and flick fine, it pitched on middle and spun back to hit the pad infront of leg. Ball tracking had it clipping leg. Decision remains out. India retain the review as it is umpire's call
launches this one over long on! He skips out and finally gets the length he wants to loft with the spin over long on
tossed up, he skips down and drives to long on but doesn't run
slower ball on middle, he defends off the front foot towards deep third but again they don't run
fuller, wide of off, he swings hard and gets a thick edge that runs to deep third. Siraj wants the run but Jadeja sends him back
good length, fourth stump, his feet are anchored and he chops it off the inside edge to short fine
flipped over short fine! He premeditates and steps inside the line, gets a length on pace ball and flicks it over short fine with great skill
back of a length outside off, he charges and moves leg side to scythe it on the up through cover for a couple
Ajay: "What do you think Jadeja is trying to do? Not hitting, not trying to hit, playing dot balls, and still not giving strike." Not sure. Just have a centre wicket hit
fuller on middle, he drives to long on but doesn't run
Zeeshan : "Yes Marsh, Marnus, Smith played well, but Maxwell is their mom (man of the match)"
tossed up on off, no spin this time, he leans out to defend
Slip in
good length, outside off, this spins and surprises Jadeja as he chops it of the inside edge behind square and takes the single
dragged down short and wide, he nails it straight to cover
flatter on off, he skips out and drives to long on but again doesn't run
wrong un, short and wide, he cuts but straight to cover
tossed up on off, he skips down to drive to long on but turns down the single
