Sri Lanka wrapped up the one-off Test match in style at The Oval of Monday afternoon with Muttiah Muralitharan taking 16 for 220, the 5th best Test bowling figures of all-time. In the second innings the spinner took 9 wickets for just 65 and would have been responsible for all ten had Alec Stewart not been run out.

  • After England were all out for 181, the Sri Lankans needed just 36 for victory, a target they achieved in five overs and with all ten second-innings wickets intact; a perfect end to a highly successful tour. Sri Lanka played their first test in England since 1991, and a sell out crowd turned out at The Oval to watch the World Champions.

The tourists also won the Emirates Triangular Tournament Final, beating England by 5 wickets. The competition was contested between England, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
