A pioneer of Ugandan cricket and a legendary figure in local cricket circles, Sam Walusimbi was a talented allrounder who, together with John Nagenda, played for the East African select side at the 1975 World Cup. Uganda's political troubles disrupted cricket in the country thereafter, and the three one-day internationals Walusimbi played during the 1975 tournament were the pinnacle of his career. When stability returned he continued to be a force to be reckoned with in Ugandan domestic cricket for many years afterward, playing in the 1986 and 1990 editions of the ICC Trophy and leading Wanderers Cricket Club to league success in 1993 at the age of 45. He subsequently moved into administrative and coaching roles, with spells in charge of both the Under-19 and national sides, and remains heavily involved in the development of cricket in Uganda.
