Ian Lewis, who died aged 69 on November 20, played five first-class games for Ireland. Capped first for Ireland at the age of 20, against MCC at Lord's, his international career spanned 18 years during which he gained 20 caps and scored 353 runs. A one-club man in Leinster cricket, he represented YMCA over a period of 36 seasons. When his playing career finished, he turned to administration and gave considerable assistance at many levels both to Leinster and to Ireland, becoming president of the Leinster Cricket Union in 1982-83 and also, in 1989, president of the Irish Cricket Union. His son Alan went on to become Ireland's most capped international, representing his country on 121 occasions. He will be remembered with deep affection by the entire Irish cricket community.
