Gordon Burgess played seven matches for Auckland between 1940-41 and 1954-55 but is best remembered as an administrator. He was a member of the New Zealand Council from 1962-63 to 1971, and was chairman between 1979-80 and 1980-81. He was also chairman of the Auckland CA from 1960 to 1967 and president from 1976 to 1983. He also managed New Zealand when they recorded their first Test victory (against West Indies in 1955-56) and in England in 1969.
