Chris Jones earned an unexpected Somerset debut in September 2010 when he came into the side to replace Craig Kieswetter. A right-handed batsman, the early part of his career has been splits between Durham University, Dorset Minor Counties and Somerset.

At Taunton, his opportunities came mainly in the middle order in the County Championship. In 2011 he made his maiden first-class half-century against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge and followed that up with 51 not out against the touring Indians at Taunton. He played six more matches without making an impression but he returned for five games in the second half of the 2012 season, making 150 runs in seven innings.

But 2013 saw his career move into a higher gear following his graduation for Durham University with a first-class degree. A first-class century followed, against the touring Australians, and an extended spell in the Somerset first XI, which also included his first fifty in T20, against Gloucestershire at Bristol.

For Dorset, he first appeared in 2008 but failed to make double figures in three matches and recorded a pair against Oxfordshire but a year later made a century against Devon. He returned in 2012 to set records with 175 and 188 in a thumping win over Shropshire at Bournemouth - it was the highest aggregate for a batman and the first time a player has made two scores over 150 in the same Minor Counties Championship match.

He announced his retirement from the game, aged just 24, to pursue other career opportunities in August 2014.
