Pakistan Academy, led by an all-round display from Anwar Ali and the steadying hand of centurion Ali Asad, took a firm grip on the match as Zimbabwe Board XI collapsed to 101 for 5, still 181 runs adrift of the follow-on target.

Asad and Ali, the two overnight batsmen, showed ominous intent as Pakistan resumed on 330 for 6. Asad, who was unbeaten on 56 after the first day, had a few nervy moments on his way to the 80s but settled down as he approached his hundred. Ali was in a more aggressive mood, and threatened to reach his ton before Asad, but he was caught at first slip off left-arm spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi. This ended their 147-run stand, and the declaration was announced once Asad got into three figures.

Zimbabwe were immediately pushed onto the back foot when Ali took the new ball. Extracting considerable lift from the surface, Ali dismissed Tafadzwa Ngulube, Erick Chauluka and Sam Mwakayeni, all of whom were bowled from around the wicket. Timycen Maruma was pushed up the order to support opener Bonaparte Majuru, and gave a good account of himself before falling to a loose stroke off Junaid Khan for 20.

The slide was briefly stemmed when Patiant Charumbira held one end up for 40 minutes, scoring just two runs. However, his vigil ended when he was caught behind by Naeem Anjum off Khan. Mujuru and wicketkeeper Regis Chakabwa ensured that their was no further damage till stumps were drawn, finishing unbeaten on 45 and 25 respectively.
