Tino Mawoyo has been named captain of the Zimbabwe A side that takes on Kenya Select in a four-day match starting at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday (May 16).

Even though the Zimbabwe Cricket officials have remained tight-lipped over the composition of the side, very reliable sources have revealed that Mawoyo, who captained Zimbabwe at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2004, will lead the second string Zimbabwe side against the East Africans.

He has been rewarded for his brilliant form in the Logan Cup after he led Easterns to the title when they beat Centrals by 146 runs at Kwekwe Sports Club. He scored a century and four half centuries in the tournament.

Mawoyo is expected to open the batting with Centrals skipper Eric Chauluka, who was picked despite a poor season in which his best score was 33. Set to complete the top order are Westerns right-hander Bonaparte Mujuru, Easterns captain Hamilton Masakadza, Notherns wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva. Unsurprisingly, Westerns skipper Keith Dabengwa, who has been in terrific form in the Logan Cup and finished with 33 wickets, is also included.

Most of the players called up are already in Harare, but the side will practice together in Harare under coach Andy Pycroft on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe A squad Tino Mawoyo (capt), Eric Chauluka, Bonaparte Mujuru, Hamilton Masakadza, Regis Chakabva (wk), Keith Dabengwa, Price Masvaure, Admire Manyumwa, Graeme Cremer, Tymicen Maruma, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, Trevor Garwe, Alois Tichana, Blessing Mahwire.
