A top-order batsman, Tino Mawoyo captained Zimbabwe Under-19 but early on his appearances were limited by educational commitments, but he turned out enough to emphasise his class. He was called up for an A-team Test against Bangladesh in 2006 and made his ODI debut on the trip to that country at the end of the year, but was not able to keep his place for the World Cup that followed. He was a key member of the Easterns side that completed the domestic double in 2006-07.
