Scorecard
Pakistan Women ended their World Twenty20 campaign with a spineless batting display against New Zealand Women. It was a dead rubber, with New Zealand having qualified, but the match lasted a total of just 28.2 overs as Pakistan limped to 65 for 9 before New Zealand raced home within nine overs. Nicola Brown, the right-arm seamer, was the star.
Browne's four-wicket burst reduced Pakistan to a pathetic 30 for 7. Browne kept the runs down as well, conceding 15 off four overs and Kate Broadmore was just as parsimonious, giving just 12 off her allotted overs. The second half of Pakistan's innings was all about survival, yet the last three wickets managed to bat out the 20 overs. Only three batsmen crossed double figures for Pakistan.
New Zealand got the chase off to a rocking start, knocking 45 off the first five overs before Sophie Devine departed. Pakistan did manage to pick up four wickets though, and it could have been a more even contest had they doubled their score.
Pakistan failed to register a single win in the competition. At the same time in St Lucia, the men's team set up a semi-final spot with a convincing win over South Africa.
Aimee Watkins, the New Zealand captain, said it would be a challenge facing West Indies in St Lucia for a place in the final. "They are the kind of team that are so unpredictable at Twenty20, one day they could make 80 all out and another 180 for four so I'm not taking the upcoming fixture lightly," she said. "Hopefully they've watched today's game and seen what kind of a bowling attack we've got in our side."
