England women have announced an unchanged squad for the forthcoming Twenty20 and ODI series against New Zealand, despite their disappointing showing at the World Twenty20 in the Caribbean last month.
While the men's side went on to win their first ICC event, England women's team - the defending champions going into the tournament - went out in the group stages. Yet the selectors are happy with the 14-strong squad that competed and chose to stick with the crop of players.
Clare Connor, head of England women's cricket, said that the squad was chosen with both formats in mind and she is satisfied with the ability in the squad. "Once again there was stiff competition for places but the selectors feel that this is a balanced squad of highly talented players for both the Twenty20 and the 50-over format.
"While the outcome of the tournament in the Caribbean was hugely disappointing, the selectors believe that this group of players have the resolve and skills required to deliver the England women's team back to winning ways."
England will play three Twenty20 games and five ODIs between starting June 29, with the Twenty20 games running alongside domestic Twenty20 tournament fixtures and will be broadcast live on Sky.
Connor feels the scheduling will aid the profile of the women's game. "These sorts of double-header opportunities are going to play an important part in continuing to raise the profile of the women's game - to live audiences and TV audiences alike."
Squad Charlotte Edwards (Kent, captain), Katherine Brunt (Yorkshire), Holly Colvin (Sussex), Lydia Greenway (Kent), Jenny Gunn (Nottinghamshire), Danielle Hazell (Yorkshire), Heather Knight (Berkshire), Laura Marsh (Sussex), Beth Morgan (Middlesex), Nicky Shaw (Surrey), Anya Shrubsole (Somerset), Claire Taylor (Berkshire), Sarah Taylor (Sussex), Danielle Wyatt (Staffordshire).
