Scorecard

A four-wicket haul by the offspinner Seema Pujare caused a dramatic batting collapse and helped India Women to their first win on tour, beating New South Wales Women by 48 runs in Bowral. Chasing 228, New South Wales were comfortably placed at 114 for 1 in the 29th over before Pujare struck and the wickets suddenly fell in a heap. Laura Wright's 96 stood out in a bizarre scorecard in which only the top three batsmen managed double figures.

The win was set up by half-centuries by Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma and Mithali Raj. Naik and Sharma added 132 for the first wicket before Sharma retired out on 65 in the 29th over to allow the others some batting practice. Naik fell a ball later, off Sarah Alley's medium pace. Anjum Chopra and Raj steadied the situation with a stand of 59. Raj finished with a brisk unbeaten 50 while Chopra made 21 to guide India to 227.

New South Wales appeared in control of the chase with half-century stands for the first two wickets. However, the wheels came off when Pujare struck when she dismissed Erin Osborne, and Wright could only watch from the other end as the wickets tumbled. Reema Malhotra chipped in with two wickets to hasten the collapse and the contest was virtually over when the home side lost four wickets for 11 runs. Wright fell four short of her hundred and was the ninth wicket to fall. She faced 129 balls and hit five fours.

The match was originally a Twenty20 fixture but was later changed to a one-dayer after the opening tour game had been washed out in Sydney. India will face Australia Under-21s tomorrow in another one-dayer.
