West Indies v India, 3rd ODI, St Lucia
July 3, 2009
The third ODI in St Lucia was blighted by rain, the start was delayed and intermittent showers kept halting play through the day
Once the weather relented, Chris Gayle was his usual aggressive self, carting the new-ball bowlers around the park
Gayle fell for a 14-ball 27 - he had scored all of the first 27 runs - to the first delivery after a rain interruption
Ramnaresh Sarwan then took charge, top scoring with a brisk 62 to push West Indies towards a challenging total
He was run out yet again, in the 21st over, but the West Indian lower middle-order put on some quick runs
Ashish Nehra was easily the best of the Indian bowlers, taking three economical wickets, but couldn't prevent the home team from setting a stiff target of 195 in 27 overs
Dinesh Karthik was the initial aggressor during the chase, scoring 47 off 43
Gautam Gambhir was less fluent but he provided a solid base by putting on 84 for the opening wicket
A slew of wickets followed and it was MS Dhoni's six in the last over that turned the match decisively in India's favour
Dhoni guided the side to a 2-1 win with a ball to spare leaving West Indies to wonder whether Ravi Rampaul should have been given the final over instead of Jerome Taylor
