West Indies A 82 for 4 trail Bangladesh 195 (Ashraful 50, Roach 5-62, Austin 5-71) by 113 runs
Scorecard
The Bangladeshis were given a stern test by West Indies A in the opening day of the tour match at Barbados, on a day in which 14 wickets fell. Kemar Roach and Ryan Austin took five wickets each as Bangladesh were bowled out for a small score, before the touring side fought back.
After choosing to bat first, the visitors lost opener Tamim Iqbal in the 15th over with the score on 35, and wickets continued to fall regularly. All the top-order Bangladesh batsmen got starts, but none converted the 20s into anything substantial. Mohammad Ashraful played a lone hand in an effort to construct a long innings, scoring the only fifty, off 82 balls, including two fours and two sixes in about an hour-and-a-half.
The wickets were shared between medium-pacer Roach and offspinner Austin, both of whom did the bulk of the bowling for West Indies A. Austin had Junaid Siddique caught behind for 29 and then got Raqibul Hasan for 26 and Shakib Al Hasan for a duck in successive overs to leave Bangladesh 122 for 5. Once Ashraful was dismissed Roach and Austin took the last three wickets for 10 in the space of 11 balls.
However, when the Bangladeshis took the field they found success immediately with young openers Kieran Powell and Adrian Barath both departing early. Newly appointed captain Mashrafe Mortaza lead the Bangladesh fightback with the wickets of Barath and Lendl Simmons. Sewnarine Chattergoon, the West Indies A captain, held the innings together for his team with an unbeaten 38.
