Australia v New Zealand

At Adelaide, January 26 (day/night). New Zealand won by 77 runs. New Zealand 5 pts. Toss: New Zealand.

Bond gate-crashed Australia's national-day celebrations, taking five for 25 as New Zealand upset their hosts once again. Thanks to a comeback innings of 95 from Astle, who returned from injury to pass Martin Crowe's national record of 4,704 runs in one-day matches, and some more booming shots from Cairns, New Zealand set a target of 243, then demolished the stunned Australians for 165. Bond removed the three most dangerous batsmen - Ponting, Martyn and Gilchrist - in a 19- ball burst, before returning to earn New Zealand a bonus point by bouncing out Bichel and whistling a yorker through Gillespie's defences. At the time, his was the third-best one-day analysis for New Zealand, behind Matt Hart's five for 22 against West Indies in 1994-95 and Richard Collinge's five for 23 against India in 1975-76, and level with Richard Hadlee's haul against Sri Lanka in 1983.

Man of the Match: S. E. Bond.
