West Indies v Zimbabwe

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, December 9. Zimbabwe won by four wickets. Zimbabwe 4 pts. Toss: Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe put aside the previous day's embarrassment to clinch a deserved, hard-fought, victory, the first time they had beaten any side other than Bangladesh in 29 one-day matches. They restricted West Indies with accurate bowling and sharp fielding, typified by Ebrahim's direct hit from backward point to inflict a fourth consecutive duck on Gayle, Olonga's sharp run-out of Hooper as he followed through, and Streak's amazing catch of Jacobs on the mid-wicket boundary to end the innings. Ganga shared partnerships of fifty with Sarwan and Samuels, but West Indies never got going. Ebrahim was lbw to the first ball of Zimbabwe's innings, as he had been the day before, but Grant Flower and Carlisle steadied things. Even then, three quick wickets left Zimbabwe faltering at 145 for six before Andy Flower and Streak guided them home with 11 balls to spare.

Man of the Match: S. V. Carlisle.
