Pakistan v Australia

At Karachi, December 4, 5, 6, 8, 9. Drawn. With Australia two wins ahead in the series and Pakistan beaten at home for the first time in a rubber, there seemed every chance of some lively cricket. In fact, play was drab for most of the time, with Pakistan taking eight hours forty-eight minutes over 287 in their first innings and eight hours over 194 in their second.

Australia showed more enterprise on the matting pitch, though they needed a last-wicket stand of 50 between Davidson and Lindwall to keep their first innings deficit down to 30.

Finally, Australia were left two hours in which to score 225 to win, a task they never seriously attempted. Hanif Mohammad hit most runs, 51 in the first innings and 101 not out in nearly six hours in the second, but failed to sparkle. He batted for most of the fourth day while 104 runs were scored and was again painfully slow on the next, when Australia were without Lindwall because of a pulled groin muscle. Saeed Ahmad, dropped before scoring, hit 91. Intikhab Alam in bowling McDonald took a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket.

Mr. Eisenhower watched play on the fourth day and as he was the first Unites States President to see Test cricket, his visit may well be remembered long after this disappointing game is forgotten.
