West Indies v Australia

At Port of Spain, May 14, 15, 17. Australia won by 10 wickets with three days to spare. A pitch on which the ball often kept low produced much unexpected cricket, and Australia made by far the better use of it.

Kanhai's 121 out of a total of 224 was superb, but the West Indies never really recovered from a devastating opening spell by Hawke in which he accounted for Hunte, Davis and Butcher for 11 runs.

Again Australia were indebted to Simpson and Cowper for their total of 294. The rest struggled unsuccessfully against Griffith, whose six wickets cost only 46 runs.

West Indies sacrificed four wickets before they were on terms, and were finally bundled out by McKenzie, Hawke and Sincock for a mere 131, of which Hunte, carrying his bat, made 60. McKenzie, who had given the air of a tired bowler in the early part of the series, took the last three wickets in four balls, and finished with five for 33.

Simpson and Lawry hit the 63 needed for victory and the series ended as if Australia, and not West Indies, were the conquerors.
