A large crowd watched a disappointingly one-sided final. South Africa knocked off their target with more than ten overs in hand after Pakistan failed to extend their innings past the 47th over. Most of their top order scored solidly, but no one bettered Ijaz Ahmed's 47. Donald took his haul of wickets to 14 in four games and Crookes's off-spin helped to finish off the tail. Hudson and Kirsten raised 77 for South Africa's first wicket in reply and Kirsten was still there at the end, unbeaten on 118, an innings he had been threatening throughout the tournament, though he was dropped twice on 32. Shahid Afridi proved he was an accomplished leg-spinner as well as a batsman, taking all three wickets. Afterwards, Kirsten was fined ten per cent of his match fee for wearing the South African flag as a bandana; ICC regulations insisted that such items should be white when white clothing is worn. Mike Doherty, the team manager, was fined the same amount for not passing on the referee's instruction to Kirsten to remove the bandana. Subsequently, ICC softened the rules and agreed to allow national colours.
