†ENGLAND v WEST INDIES 1986-87

At Brisbane, January 17. England won by six wickets. Although Haynes and Logie added 86 in 22 overs, West Indies never recovered from losing Greenidge, Richardson and Richards in the first eleven. Moisture underneath the surface made the toss of more importance than it should have been, and Dilley, DeFreitas and Small took full advantage of Gatting's success, swinging and seaming the ball with immaculate control. Haynes and Logie were both caught on the boundary, Haynes brilliantly by DeFreitas ankle-high. With batting conditions steadily improving in 100-degree heat, there was no help for West Indies' fast bowlers and Richards, conceding defeat, withdrew them after England had reached 82 for one in 22 overs.

Man of the Match: G. R. Dilley. Attendance: 13,630.
