Broad's stylish innings - he faced 133 balls for his 97 - seemed to have put England on course for an uneventful victory in the dress rehearsal for the final until five wickets fell in ten overs. The last of them, Broad's, when he was adjudged caught at the wicket dabbing at Imran Khan in the 47th over, brought to life what had been a quiet game. Amid mounting excitement DeFreitas and Emburey added 15 off the next two overs and 5 more off the first three balls of the 50th, forcing Imran to close up the field; whereupon DeFreitas coolly won the match with a cover drive for four. In Pakistan's innings a blind spot in the umpires' knowledge of the Laws cost Ramiz Raja his wicket. Not hearing umpire Crafter's no-ball call, Ramiz began walking out when he clipped Gatting to Athey at wide mid-on, whence after hesitation Athey lobbed the ball to Richards. On appeal Ramiz was given out by umpire French at square leg in contravention of Law 38(2): "If a no-ball has been called, the striker shall not be given run out unless he attempts to run." Rarely as such an eventuality arises, two Test umpires should have known the Law.
