World Series Cup - First Final Match

†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1984-85

At Sydney, February 6 (day/night). Australia won by 26 runs. A magnificent, unbeaten 127 by Border, rated one of the best one-day innings he had seen by Border's opposite number, Lloyd - and the best of all by the former England captain, Tony Greig - gave Australia the total and inspiration they needed. Border came in after both openers had been dismissed by lifting balls from Garner, took a painful blow on the chest from Garner early on, and saw the total slump to 64 for four in the eighteenth over before Phillips helped him add 105 in 20.4 overs. As Border hit thirteen 4s from the 140 deliveries he faced, West Indies' outcricket became unusually ragged. They delivered twenty no-balls and fielded poorly. They also batted unconvincingly, Richards offering three chances in 68, although Marshall and Garner raised their hopes temporarily by adding 63 for the ninth wicket.

Attendance: 29,588.
