Wisden Cricketers' Almanack 2009
England's Claire Taylor - the leading female batsman in world cricket, and a member of the side that won the Ashes in 2008 and the World Cup in 2009 - has become the first woman to be named as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year. Born in Buckinghamshire, she did not play organised cricket until she was 13, but now holds the record for the highest score in any one-day international (male or female) at Lord's. Her profile was written by the man who made the choice - Wisden's editor Scyld Berry

Since 2004, each Almanack contains details of all the international cricket played in the previous calendar year - so the 2006-07 Champions Trophy, which took place towards the end of 2006, appears in Wisden 2007. Until 2003 the Almanack covered the cricket played in the previous year's English summer, and the overseas season that preceded it - so, for example, the 2002 Wisden covers the cricket played in England in 2001 and overseas in 2000-01.
