Ramnarine denies WICB payment claim

Dinanath Ramnarine, the West Indies Players' Association chief executive, has denied allegations from the West Indies board that he received US$150,000 during legal proceedings involving the two bodies. A WIPA statement said Ramnarine had referred the matter, which was raised in a WICB media release, to his lawyers.

It is another messy chapter in the drawn-out saga between the WICB and the players' union that involves almost daily allegations and counter arguments between the parties. In the latest claim WIPA has denied it delayed or breached any agreements.

Responding to the WICB's release on Wednesday, WIPA said in a statement no time-frame had been set out in the New York Agreement for special arbitrations. It also claimed it has had no response from a letter written to the WICB in December 2009 regarding the memorandum of understanding.

Further, WIPA said it had adhered to all the terms of the New York Agreement, but the issues of player rankings and injury payments remained unresolved. Finally, it pointed out the proposal of the ICC and the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations had no power to bind, unlike the arbitration process.
