The West Indies Cricket Board has called on the region's players' association to reconsider an offer from the ICC and international players' union in a bid to end "years of acrimonious relations". The board said it was approached by the ICC and the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations to finalise a dispute over image rights with the West Indies Players' Association, which is the subject of arbitration.
"The WICB was enthused by this offer and agreed, in full, to the joint ICC and FICA offer to intervene," a board statement said. It said that WIPA preferred to pursue costly arbitration, and rejected a similar claim about the board from WIPA.
"The WICB calls on WIPA to review its rejection of the joint ICC/FICA offer which is a golden opportunity for the two parties to reach final resolution after years of acrimonious relations," the statement said.
"Further, the WICB calls on WIPA to join in acting in the best interest of the game in the West Indies by dealing with the issues in a fair and balanced manner and to avoid an insistence on an antagonistic and confrontational approach to resolving the outstanding issues."
Strikes and player dissatisfaction over wages have been a feature of West Indies cricket over the past few years. Another dispute emerged over the past month over payments to Guyana for the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 tournament in South Africa.
