The leading wicket-taker in West Indies' first-class domestic season in 2007-08, Nikita Miller saved his best performance for the final. In the Carib Beer Challenge decider, he picked up his initial five-wicket haul in first-class cricket and quickly followed it with his second. The ten-wicket match ensured Jamaica won the trophy and it left Miller with 42 victims for the season, one more than his fellow slow bowler Amit Jaggernauth. It was a major step up following a 2006-07 when he could only manage six breakthroughs at 36.66 in four outings. Although he was overlooked for the home Tests against Australia after his triumphant season, Miller earned his first international call-up during the one-day series that followed. He was unexpectedly called up to the Test squad against Bangladesh in 2009 after the senior team boycotted the St Vincent Test over a contract dispute.
