A left-hand opener with remarkable powers of concentration, Len Baichan made hundreds in his first two matches of the West Indies' 1974-75 tour of India and Pakistan, the second a match-saving effort in the second innings of the first Test at Lahore. A car accident meant he missed the Tests against India, and the presence of Roy Fredericks and Gordon Greenidge made it nigh on impossible for him to regain one of the opening slots. He made his third and final appearance - batting No. 3 - the following winter in the sixth Test against Australia at Melbourne where he made 3 and 20 against the might of Lillee and Thomson. That was that.
