Dolphins batsman David Miller has been included in South Africa's limited-overs squads for the tour of West Indies following the World Twenty20. Miller replaces Wayne Parnell, who has failed to recover from the groin injury he sustained during the IPL and will target the Test series starting next month.
Miller, 20, has played 22 first-class games and averages 30.93, and has an impressive List A record, with an average of 35.85 and a strike-rate of 107.72 in 26 games. Miller was promoted to the A level, and scored a century - 115 off just 60 balls - for South Africa A against Bangladesh A in Mirpur in the ongoing tri-series also involving West Indies A.
"Unfortunately Wayne Parnell has not recovered sufficiently from injury for this segment of the tour and we are now targeting for the three-match Test series next month," Andrew Hudson, South Africa's newly-appointed convenor of selectors said. "But it does create an opportunity to try out another youngster at international level," he added. "We have specifically opted for Miller because we are looking to strengthen our power-hitting in the middle order. David has impressed in this role for the Nashua Dolphins in both the MTN40 and the Pro20 competitions.
"He had a strike rate of 125 and 133 respectively in these competitions and has also done well for the South Africa A side on their current tour of Bangladesh."
In the MTN40 competition, Miller averaged 40, and a staggering 53 in the Pro20 tournament.
Miller is expected to arrive in the Caribbean in the middle of next week. South Africa and West Indies play two Twenty20 internationals and five ODIs before a three-match Test series.
