Australia brushed aside Bangladesh's challenge with ease and coasted to a ten-wicket victory. Although the match was reduced to 22-overs a side, it was not without significant landmarks.

  • When Glenn McGrath bowled Shahriar Nafees with a yorker he equalled Wasim Akram's record of 55 World Cup wickets. McGrath soon left Akram behind when he had Aftab Ahmed caught by Nathan Bracken and he finished the game with 3 for 16, taking his World Cup tally to 57. • McGrath has dismissed 43 of his 57 victims for scores of below ten - ten of those have been ducks. Only four of his victims managed to pass 50 and only Herschelle Gibbs went on to make a hundred before being dismissed by McGrath. Click here for a full list of McGrath's World Cup wickets.

  • Australia's ten-wicket victory was the first such occurrence in the 2007 World Cup. It was the seventh time that a team has won by this margin in a World Cup. Click here for the full list of ten-wicket wins in World Cups.

  • Ricky Ponting surpassed Clive Lloyd as the captain with the most wins in World Cup matches. Ponting has led Australia to 16 wins out of 16 matches while Lloyd guided West Indies to 15 wins out of 17 between 1975 and 1983.

  • Ponting now shares the Australian mark with Allan Border for leading Australia in the most matches in World Cups. Mohammad Azharuddin's 23 games is the overall record in World Cups. Today's game against Bangladesh was also Ponting's 273rd one-day international, equalling Border as the second most capped Australian behind Steve Waugh's 325.

  • Australia became the first country to win 400 One-Day Internationals. In all they have played 653 matches, losing 227, tying 8 and 18 matches ended in no result.
