The Pakistanis breezed to an easy victory over the Prime Minister's XI with more than seven overs to spare at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Chasing a disappointing target of 192, Yousuf Youhana and Younis Khan both reached half-centuries to give the side a small confidence boost before their critical VB Series match against West Indies at Adelaide on Friday.
After smothering a blistering start, Pakistan grabbed control of the match through tight bowling from Azhar Mahmood and Shoaib Malik, who enjoyed a three-wicket haul following remedial work on his action. Ben Edmondson was the best of the local bowlers and removed the openers Taufeeq Umar and Salman Butt.
The PM's XI broke free through Luke Ronchi as he blasted 40 off 13 balls, including two sixes and six fours, and the local side boomed to 0 for 51 off four overs. But Pakistan fought back, conceding only 27 from the next 11 overs on a batsman-friendly surface, before Chris Rogers and Stewart Heaney (35), the ACT batsman, combined for a 61-run partnership. Hopes of a 200-plus total ended when the PM's XI lost 4 for 7 and were dismissed in the 47th over.
