Yorkshire and Sussex chase Pollock

Shaun Pollock is a player in demand as two more counties have shown interest in signing him for the 2008 season now that he has retired from the international game.

Warwickshire, Pollock's former county, have already stated their claim to bring him back to Edgbaston and now Yorkshire and Sussex have said they are also chasing his signature.

Yorkshire are searching out possible replacements for Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, the Pakistan quick bowler, after they gave him a deadline to prove his fitness as he tries to recover from the shoulder injury he collected towards the end of last season with Sussex.

"We have made enquiries about him [Pollock]," Stewart Regan, the Yorkshire chief executive, told the Yorkshire Post. "He's due to play in the Indian Premier League and I don't think he would be available for the whole of the rest of the season."

Naved-ul-Hasan has already agreed a two-year deal and Yorkshire are keen to give him every chance of recovering. "We've put back the deadline to give him more time," said Regan. "We will assess him properly on January 31 and make a final decision. We know he is training hard and is very keen."

If Pollock was to opt for Sussex it will have to be under a Kolpak deal as the county champions already have Mushtaq Ahmed as their one overseas player. However, Warwickshire - where Pollock took four wickets in four balls on his debut in 1996 - remain the favourites if he decides on another spell in the county game.
