West Indies v Pakistan, 2017

Wisden's review of the first T20 International, West Indies v Pakistan, 2017

11-Apr-2018
First Twenty20 international At Bridgetown, Barbados, March 26, 2017. Pakistan won by six wickets. West Indies 111-8 (20 overs) (C. R. Brathwaite 34*; Shadab Khan 3-7); ‡Pakistan 115-4 (17.1 overs) (Shoaib Malik 38*). MoM: Shadab Khan. T20I debuts: R. Powell (West Indies); Shadab Khan. Teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan bamboozled West Indies on his senior debut to set up a straightforward Pakistan victory. He picked up three wickets from his first eight balls, two with googlies, and would have had a fourth if Kamran Akmal - returning as a specialist batsman after almost three years out of the national side - had not grassed Kieron Pollard at backward point. Shadab conceded just seven runs in all, the cheapest four-over return by a debutant in Twenty20 internationals. Captain Carlos Brathwaite's 34* dragged West Indies from 49-6 to 111, but it was never enough. Babar Azam (29) and Shoaib Malik came together at 49-3, and added a leisurely 46.
