West Indies v Bangladesh 2009

A review of West Indies v Bangladesh, 2nd ODI, 2009

15-Apr-2010
At Roseau, Dominica, July 28, 2009. Bangladesh won by three wickets. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debuts: D. C. Thomas, G. C. Tonge.
An extraordinary loss of control by Roach, until then West Indies' most effective bowler, proved decisive. With Bangladesh requiring 56 off eight overs to reach 275 - then their highest successful one-day run-chase - he conceded 18 in the 43rd over, with Mushfiqur Rahim thumping two fours and Shakib Al Hasan pulling what should have been the last ball of the over for six. Because it was Roach's second full toss above waist height, it was called no-ball and forced his instant disqualification from the attack. With only five main bowlers, Reifer asked wicketkeeper Devon Thomas, making his international debut, to finish the over - and soon gave him another, in which he took two wickets. But by then the force was with Bangladesh, who clinched the series with an over to spare. West Indies owed their total mainly to Dowlin's innings of two halves; his first fifty took 88 balls, his second 29 as he, Lewis and Sammy plundered 98 off the last ten overs. Despite Mohammad Ashraful's second successive half-century and Shakib's consistent form, Bangladesh were well behind the required rate until Roach's meltdown. Fifteen wides were also significant.
Man of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan
