Vijaykumar leaves Andhra well-poised

A round-up of the Ranji Trophy Group C matches played on December 16, 2014

Group C

Andhra 141 (Pradeep 53, Manukrishnan 3-37, Niyas 3-42) and 55 for 0 (Bharat 41*) need another 163 runs to beat Kerela (229 (Gomez 81, Stephen 3-43) and 129 (Pawan 34, Vijaykumar 5-33)
Scorecard
Andhra have the opportunity to record their first win of the season after a five-wicket haul from Paidikalva Vijaykumar rolled Kerela over for 129. Those chances increased as opener Srikar Bharat helped knock 55 runs off the target of 218 before stumps in Vizianagaram
Kerela had been given a decent start but once Vijaykumar made the first incision, the rest toppled. He got rid of four of the top five batsmen and the lower order could not muster much fight. KB Pawan top-scored with 34 and the captain Sachin Baby hung around for 106 balls but Andhra's bowlers were never threatened - only one of them had an economy rate over 2. Vijaykumar bowled 26 overs, 15 of which were maidens, and gave away only 33 runs.
Assam 191 (Arun Karthik 97, Ajay 2-25, Sunny 2-27, Nadeem 2-44, Quadri 2-46) and 157 for 2 (Das 75*, Roy 60) lead Jharkhand 217 (Kishan 60, Goswami 4-20) by 131 runs
Scorecard
Assam seamer Dhiraj Goswami knocked over the Jharkhand middle and lower order with 4 for 20 off 15 overs. Jharkhand, who had begun the day on 196 for 4, folded for 217 and the Jharkhand lead to 26, which was swiftly erased at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.
Kaushal Singh could only add one more run to his overnight score of 38 before falling to left-arm spinner Syed Mohammad. Goswami struck twice in the 82nd over and Saurabh Tiwary's attempt to salvage the innings ended when he was eighth man out, caught behind off Goswami for 29. The tail added a further five runs before folding for 217.
Assam put together a strong reply with opener Pallavkumar Das scoring an unbeaten 75 off 191 balls, with 10 fours and a six. Sibsankar Roy supported him with 60 off 154 balls, but fell to Sunny Gupta in the 61st over, two overs before the close of play.
Goa 238 for 6 (Kamat 97, Ravi Kiran 2-24, Ojha 2-98) trail Hyderabad 568 for 7 dec (Vihari 179, Agarwal 135, Quadri 115*) by 330 runs
Sagun Kamat was the backbone of Goa's reply to Hyderabad's massive total of 568. But his wicket - he fell three short of a fourth first-class century - has left the hosts in a strong position to take a first-innings lead at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Goa lost their captain Swapnil Asnodkar for a duck. Two further wickets with the score on 58 added further pressure until Kamat and wicketkeeper Keenan Vaz strung together an 83-run stand for the fourth wicket. Pragyan Ojha got rid of both batsmen and Chama Milind dismissing Darshan Misal with eight overs left for stumps has placed Hyderabad in the ascendancy.
Services 10 for 0 trail Tripura 430 (Banik 93, Acharkee 83, Takawale 89, Suraj 3-106) by 420 runs
Scorecard
Steady contributions down the middle and lower order lifted Tripura to 430. Rajesh Banik and Kaushal Acharjee, the overnight batsmen, went on to make 93 and 83 respectively to add to their chances of taking a first-innings lead over Services in Delhi.
They had struck 24 fours between them and the partnership finally ended on 178. Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar dismissed Banik in the 112th over and got rid of Acharjee in the 116th. The final four batsmen added 78 runs to boost the total after which the Services openers batted out 7.1 overs for 10 runs until stumps.
