Useful batting practice ahead?

The first day belonged completely to Australia A, who batted with aggressive intent, and then dismissed Sadagoppan Ramesh in the 13 overs they bowled to the Indians. Martin Love, Michael Hussey, and Chris Rogers helped themselves to half-centuries, as an Indian attack without Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, and Anil Kumble was hung out to dry, with all the bowlers proving expensive, even though the overcast conditions and moist wicket loaded the pitch in their favour.

Playing their first game after the second Test, the Indians were lethargic on the field, converting singles into doubles, and fumbling straightforward takes in the outfield. It was a sorry display from a side that lifted itself when the moment demanded a better performance, throughout the series. And by the looks of it, the Indians needed one heck of an inspired performance to put the pressure back on Australia A.

With four fast bowlers in its ranks, Australia A were expected to come hard at the Indians, as the selectors kept an eye out for bowlers who could represent Australia. As for the Indians, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly would prefer to spend some time at the crease, before the Boxing Day Test. It could make for some enthralling cricket.
