At Hobart, January 14, 2007. Australia won by 105 runs. Australia 5 pts. Toss: Australia. One-day
international debut: B. W. Hilfenhaus.
Australia cruised to their second victory - and a bonus point - despite Bond wrapping up their
innings with a hat-trick, only the second for New Zealand in one-day internationals after Danny
Morrison's against India at Napier in 1993-94. Bond had gone for 22 runs in his nine-ball ninth
over, but in the final over of the innings he removed White, caught at deep midwicket, then
Symonds, edging behind attempting a fierce lofted drive, and Bracken, who failed to cover his
off stump. But Bond's burst came too late. White had already struck three sixes on his way to
45 from 32 balls, while Symonds paced his 69 well on a slow pitch. Together they put on 90 in
nine overs, boosting Australia to 289 after a mid-innings lull followed a half-century by Gilchrist.
A bright 84 by Taylor shone in a New Zealand innings that tailed off quickly: they lost their last
seven wickets for 23.
Man of the Match: A. Symonds. Attendance: 15,690.
