At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, July 23, 2007. Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh's batting woes continued. Sri Lanka won a good toss in cloudy conditions and
Malinga seized the advantage with the new ball: Shahriar Nafees edged to slip while trying to steer
to third man, Tamim Iqbal had his stumps uprooted by a yorker, and Mushfiqur Rahim, promoted
to No. 4, lasted just four balls before edging a lifting delivery that was acrobatically caught by
Sangakkara behind the stumps. Aftab Ahmed provided some resistance, with 47 from 85 balls, and
Mohammad Ashraful chipped in with 29 from 59. But Bangladesh's recovery was ended by
Jayasuriya, whose left-arm spin claimed four wickets, taking him to 300 in one-day internationals.
Sri Lanka needed only 138, though Bangladesh did remove their top four for 79 before Silva and
Dilshan put them on course for victory, which arrived with almost 19 overs to spare.
Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
